Autumn – Winter Garden

We are keen to prepare our garden ahead of winter, to ensure we have great food in the spring. For inspiration we took a packed lunch and visited Hulme Community Garden Centre yesterday. Its lovely to sit in their gardens and to wander around, getting ideas and talking to staff about what we can do now, in preparation for spring.

We picked up a tray of Golden Streak Mustard, organic Garlic and Radar Onion sets.

Golden Streak Mustard has a really strong peppery taste and is perfect to liven up a winter salad. I’ve planted these in between other crops and in individual pots.

The garlic and onions can be planted out now in small pots, covered with compost and kept in a cool place over winter.

We were excited to hear that next week, Hulme Garden Centre are holding an ‘Apple and pumpkin day’ with pumpkin carving, heritage apple tasting and pressing, conker fights and home made soup and bread.
